Abstract:

Background: Tibial plateau fractures happens when the proximal tibia bears an intolerable axial load and generally happens in road Traffic accidents and sports injuries. It constitutes 1% of all Orthopedic fractures and 8% of fractures in the geriatric population. The management of proximal tibial plateau fractures is still evolving. Comminuted of articular surfaces and metaphyseal region, extensive soft tissue injuries, infection and danger of compartment syndrome are the toilsome factor for management of proximal bicondylar Tibial fractures. Various modalities like cast, traction or open reduction and internal fixation using single to double plating available for treating similar type of fractures. We study the results of binary locking plate and buttress plating in operation of proximal Tibial Schatzker V and VI tibial plateau fracture by using minimally invasive surgical approach.
Methods: A prospective study was carried out at SMIMER Medical College and Hospital, Surat for 35 cases Proximal tibial fractures treated by internal fixation using double Plate Osteosynthesis between 18-60 years who attended our OPD or Emergency from 1st May 2023-31st October 2024. All cases were operated surgically with ORIF technique. Regular clinical and radiological follow- up was done to valuate functionality of knee, union status of fracture, non-union, secondary displacement, implant failure and any complications.
Results: In our study, ORIF Technique was used to treat 35 cases, of which 22 cases had excellent results, 07 cases had good results, two cases had fair results.
Conclusion: The results of the study concluded that by using minimal invasive approach of bi condylar fracture fixation are excellent without any major complication.
